These three boys sleep a lot. The problem is, they don't sleep like normal rats. First off, about 90% of the time, they don't have the courtesy to sleep with their eyes closed. So I'm looking at them, their eyes are open but they're stiff as a board in some weird position. I move in closer and the rat does not move. I don't know if he's awake or dead. I have come to realize, this is how they sleep. Most of the time they will not wake up unless they hear me laughing or the sound of the camera clicking. Second off, they don't sleep in normal positions. If get a normal, rat sleeping position out of one of these boys, I'm lucky. Generally, it's legs up in the air, head twisted, eyes open while lying on their back. Schmidty is the absolute worst. Rarely does he sleep like a normal rat. He prefers to sleep in what appears to be the most uncomfortable positions. I don't know how he does it. Sometimes he defies gravity. He's sitting up (you'll see down the page), but he's not really leaning on anything, just sitting straight up. This is when he's asleep. With his eyes open. I have tons of pictures of these boys sleeping, I've only included a handful here, but  for each shot of them in some weird position, I have ten more just like it from different times. I've only included a few shots overall of the plethora of odd sleeping shots I have of these weird sleepers.

This is how I generally find Schmity. His eyes are open, but trust me, he's asleep. I'll get a
few shots from different angles until he wakes up. Usually he'll move around a bit,
then go back to sleep in some other odd position.

Bubba has a thing about sleeping with his "boys" a hanging. He loves to show them
off, as if he was appearing in some Swank-for-rat-females magazine. If this was the
porn shot, there'd be a black stripe over his boys. Unless he has his say. He'd want
them right there for the world to see.

Okay, now here's two rare shots of Schmidty sleeping like a regular rat. It doesn't happen
often. I had to include them to show that he does sleep normally sometimes. His eyes are even partially
closed. But when he does pass on some day, I probably won't realize it for a couple days. I'll just be
going "man, Schmidty is taking a long nap."
 

Fredo is the one of the three who sleeps normally most of the time.
Sometimes I see him in one of the rat-nudie magazine poses but
most of the time, he sleeps like a regular rat.
 
 

Sometimes he likes to sleep ON his brother. That's Schmidty
underneath there, completely happy with his brother lying on top of him.
 

When it's hot I leave an "ice bowl" out for the boys. After it melts, they like to sleep in it. Even if there's still water in it.
 

Here's ol' Bubba, lying in some weird yoga position. Eyes open but
fast asleep. I got lots of angles of this shot, because it was hard to
believe he was asleep but he never woke up at all.
 

Ah, another typical Schmidty sleeping position. He's leaning up against the corner of the cage, his upper body totally bent, yet
somehow this is comfortable for him. He's asleep (eyes open of course) and stayed in this position for a while, like there was a TV
just a foot away in front of him and he fell asleep like that.
 

Schmidty can fall asleep anywhere, anytime. I'll see him playing with
his brothers one minute, come back two minutes later and he's
passed out like one of his brothers slipped him a rufie.

Now here's the sitting up pictures I was talking about before. He's fast asleep here. I got tons of shots of this. He was like this
for a while. But what's keeping him up? He's not leaning his body on that ladder. He's leaning his side up against the side of the cage
but what's keeping his upper body bent like that? Is he having a dream he's doing a sit up? And of course, his eyes are open. Maybe
I need to get him one of those tiny rat sleeping masks.
 

More shots of Schmidty, who can't just find a place in the open and lie like a normal rat. No, he's got to find some cramped spot
or somewhere behind or underneath a box. At least his eyes are closed here.

Schmidty is fast asleep here. His legs are sticking up like normal and his mouth is wide open, like he's snoring. Oh yeah, and his brother Fredo is
fast asleep on top of him. Just another blanket for Schmidty. He doesn't care if his slightly heavier brother sleeps on top of him. As long as he can get
a little of his 23 hours of sleep in the weirdest position possible, he's happy.
