One of the great ones passed on last night. Ingrid came
to me from the Marina Del Rey rescue. Someone had dumped off a bunch of
rats in the gutter in Marina Del Rey,
California
in the summer of '05. Some of the rats were going into some homeless people's
van and besides the ones I was catching on my own, I agreed to take some
from the homeless people too. Ingrid was in the very first batch of rats
I took from them and was the only rat of that whole rescue that I kept.
She was one of the friendliest, happiest animals ever. She loved people and was the most prolific stasher in the history of stashing. She just loved to stash stuff. She had a couple different places she would stash things, usually reserving one of the hammocks for nothing but stash and then a corner or box or two. Up to her last hour on earth, she was happily stashing nuts. She was a popcorner too. She love to just jump around and play. She and her two cagemates, Kalli and Popeye, were very close. She was always asleep with one or both of them in either the hammocks, a box or one of the plastic garbage bins in the back of the table they like to stuff themselves into. Of course, she loved cheese and would try and take their cheese too. And when people would come over, even those who weren't into rodents, they'd always end up petting Ingrid because she was so friendly and would never turn down a good scratch.
After a bath last month, she inspects her newly
cleaned cage and wonders where all her
stashed treats went to.
She loved corn on the cob.
One of those rare times she wasn't asleep in the bins or hammocks.
That
dish was full of ice. I give them a bowl of ice and they just love
to play with it.
Ingrid would even stash pieces of ice, which of course made her other
treats into mush.
She munches on a treat.

Another night after a cage cleaning, she inspects stuff.

With her buddies enjoying some grub.
In the back of the cage, she loved to get in that plastic bin and sleep.
After her bath. A great girl who will be missed. There was never a
human or rat who didn't like Ingrid.
