Janey
came with her sister Zuzu in December of 09. Zuzu was the runt and
never got real big, however Janey got to be a pretty good sized in her
old age. She also developed three tumors. I took her into the vet a few
months ago to see what it would cost to have them removed and they said
it would be chancey that she would even survive such a surgery and
because of her age, it might just be better to let her live with them
since they'd probably come back right away and she wasn't having that
much problem getting around with them.
She made it to about
two years old, which I was hoping she'd get at least to that age. Her
sister Zuzu had terrible respiratory issues her whole life but Janey
seemed to get better. Zuzu passed on in March of '11 so Janey outlived
her sister by five months.
She is the last of the rats who
moved in with me when I moved to where I am now (so the current batch
from the 1000 rats rescue are all new to this place). After Zuzu's
passing, Janey kind of grew close to Sadie, one of the 1000 rats rescue
rats I have (I still will never understand why rats who look alike
always stick together -they do NOT know they look alike). Janey almost
seemed like a mom to Sadie, they were always together - even when Janey
had problems getting up the stairs on the cage and had to stay on the
bottom floor, Sadie would lay with her all the time. I know Sadie is
missing her "mom."
I did save Zuzu in the freezer so when the
time came, the two sisters could be buried together. Janey was a little
shy but a sweet girl and everyone who met her liked her a lot. I'm glad
she got to have a life here, even if tumors overtook her the last month
of her life. She was buried today with her sister. She had a nice life.
