THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

DAY FIVE OF BROOK'S BABIES

December 11, 1998

The babies are doing great. It appears Brook had four girls and three boys. So far, five of them look exactly the same, one looks like the others but is lighter (he's a boy) and one is clear, an albino I believe (she's a girl). Here we see one baby trying to escape.

Brook is doing real well. She doesn't mind at all when I hold the babies, so I've been holding them quite a bit in what time I've spent with them. They're growing fast it seems.

Brook is really getting into running and hiding when I let her out. She's taking full advantage of her time away from her baby rearing, so she gets under my bed, which I supposedly had sectioned off. But since she's so small still, she can get into places the other rats can't, the little brat.

Despite not being able to see or hear, the babies have an amazing knack for finding each other. When one wanders off, it will turn around and get right back with the others. I assume it's from smell.

They look like little seals.

They all move a lot. They seem to almost wrestle each other. One minute one baby is on top, the next, he's on the bottom. This little part right here, the magnificent seven were all over the place, within that little confined space. It's like a World Wrestling Federation match.

One wanders off again, but quickly does a U-turn and finds his way back. It's hard to believe these little critters are only five days old. They've grown so much since they were born last Sunday (it's Friday today). One minute they were little pink fingers, the next their colorful, active baby rats.

There she is again, leaving her brothers and sisters behind to explore. Just like her father. I was hoping this one would be male so I could keep her, but since she's not, I can't. It's already too much effort taking care of five grown males who don't all get along.

But this little baby is cute already.
