Good-bye Willie
3/15/03 - 10/4/05

Willie as a baby.

Willie, along with his brothers Albert and Hank, were from the big Menlo Park rescue in March of 2003 (a mentally challenged man had over 500 rodents, many loose, in his house). I brought home a litter of 15 babies, found homes for all but three and ended up keeping those three, who were three of the best boys I've ever had. Hank died in May of 2004, but Albert and Willie lived over 2 and a half years.

Willie finally gave into old age today. A happy and friendly boy, Willie is the third of the four old men to pass on in the past month (Chester four weeks ago, Spike two) leaving Albert as the sole living old man. Willie was a great pet who never gave me a single problem. The last few months of his life, with his brother Albert, he was allowed to run free on the floor because of the loss of use of his back legs. I set up a corner with a sheet, some boxes and tent, along with food and water for the two brothers to go as they please. Both boys spent the majority of their time on the sheet (although they did leave some poops on the floor, no big problem). Chewing on stuff is not an issue and there were no other problems other than accidentally kicking them in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom.

Willie was one of the greats and will surely be missed a lot.

Willie was a big boy, probably the biggest of the four old men and definitely the biggest of the brothers.

He was a black hooded, just like his brother Hank. It's hard to believe this is the same little guy who was climbing all over his travel
cage like a monkey when he first arrived here in April of 2003.

Ah, the one great chew toy for all the boys: my tv tray.

His favorite treats, just like Albert, were those little chocolate teddy bear cookies.

He loved tents and boxes.
