Here, with pictures and diagrams, we will see how to make a small amount of treats seem like an endless supply, by using today's events as an example. I have nine rats divided between three cages.
Here are the three cages:
Cage number one is a large, three doored cage that usually holds the most rats (it's got all their toys on top of it) but at the moment only houses three (we've had a couple pass recently which is why the smaller amount). Cage number two holds four while cage number three holds just two, Daisy and Lily.
Here is the actual breakdown:

The main stashers: Eppy, Sugar 1, Swirl, Daisy
and Golly.
The occasional stashers: Posy, Lily, Sugar
2
Doesn't care about stashing: Thelma
The two other main stashing spots:

Under the drawers, a favorite of Lily and Posy and the
ferret highway, where various rats will stash treats.
Eppy is the queen of the stashers, followed by her cohort and roommate Sugar 1. She will never stop stashing until she believes she has every treat in the room. Sugar and Eppy both stash in the same cage, but in different places. They want to make sure they've got everything covered. You never know when during the night, you might be at the bottom of the stairs and want a Cheesepuff, or in the top corner and want a Trisket.
Golly stashes in her cage, and in the ferret highway.
The treats for today:
Cheesepuffs, a rat favorite. There are some treats I give that not
all of the rats like. But Cheesepuffs are beloved by all the rats.
Here are today's events, as they occurred:
2:45: Pulled out bag of Cheesepuffs and shook the bag. All rats
come running when they hear anything like crinkling wrappers or goodies
shaking in a container. They know it's time for treats and will fight each
other off like derelicts fighting over a dollar to get their share.
2:48: All the treats are gone. Eppy, Sugar 1 and Swirl have
gotten the most. Their cage has Cheesepuffs stashed in three different
places (cage 2). Golly has done all the stashing for her cage (cage
1). Daisy has gotten a few for her cage (cage 3). Lily and
Posy have been stashing them under the drawers. Sugar II has put a couple
in the ferret highway. Thelma has taken one, moved to a corner and
room and actually began to eat it. She is the only one.
2:49:
Eppy and Sugar start going into Golly's cage (#1) to steal her treats.
While they are doing this, I reach into their cage (#2) and grab as many
of their Cheesepuffs as I can. Eppy and Sugar both quickly return
with a Cheesepuff each and store them in their usual spot. As they do that,
I am dispensing the ones that I took from their cage to Lily, Posy and
Golly, who are stashing them in their spots again. Eppy and Sugar
run back to Golly's cage to get more. They really think they are
going to take all the treats there are and deservedly so.
2:51: Eppy and Sugar move as fast as they can, like two soldiers
on a mission. They must get treats and as fast as they can. Both
of them are moving quickly, but not in sync, so that occasionally, they
actually run into each other running back and forth. Meanwhile,
I've distributed all their original treats and they're all over the room.
Daisy joins in on taking treats out of Golly's cage.
2:54:
Thelma eats Cantaloupe. She does not care about the stashing. She knows
that I will give her treats no matter what, so whether she stashes them
now, or just gets them later, she doesn't care. She'd rather enjoy the
nice cantaloupe that no one else at the moment seems to want.
2:55: Every few seconds, when Sugar and Eppy are out of the
cage in other cages stealing treats, I'll reach in and grab the ones they
just stashed. At this time, Lily, Sugar II and Posy are pretty much
doing their own thing at some other place in the room. Golly is still trying
to get treats, so I give her as many of Eppy's as I can. She puts them
back in her cage, but Eppy, Sugar and Daisy steal them just as quick. It's
a vicious cycle.
2:56: Golly isn't giving up. She's going to keep putting treats
in her cage. At some point Eppy and Sugar have to give up. They have to.
Meanwhile, Eppy and Sugar are under the impression that they are getting
an endless supply of treats, enough to last them a year. They keep
putting them in their cage, but haven't caught on that I'm taking them
right back out and distributing them in the room.
2:57: I have more treats out of Eppy's cage and am trying to
give them all, one-by-one, to Golly, hiding them from the rest. Golly patiently
takes each one, puts it in its place, gets another and repeats. Eppy
and Sugar still tirelessly steal them. Little do they understand that they
are stealing the same treats over and over and over.
2:58: Sugar
goes into Daisy's cage to steal some treats. She actually gets a couple
before Daisy catches on and gets in there with her. Daisy is mad, but she
knows Sugar is bigger and can beat her up. Yet, by going in the cage and
standing next to her, she has seemed to have stopped Sugar from stealing
her treats. Either that, or she's already gotten them all.
2:59:
I am literally taking the treats out of Eppy's cage and giving them all
to Golly. She takes them in her cage and Eppy ends up taking them right
out. Meanwhile, Sugar has started getting the stash under the drawers and
in the ferret highway. Eppy catches on too and follows. This gives
Golly a bit of a chance to replenish her stash. She excitedly grabs
each Cheesepuff and puts it in her spot in the cage. The Cheesepuffs are
about half her size. She looks so funny carrying this large treat
to the other end of the cage. She loves it. As fast as I can give
them to her, Eppy and Sugar are filling their spots back up with the other
treats. They think they have hit the mother lode.
3:00: Swirl occasionally steals a treat from under the drawers
or the ferret highway, but isn't as meticulous as Eppy and Sugar. She stops
every once in a while to actually chew on one, or finds something else
to do. Lily and Posy want to play and keep bugging me. They climb all over
me. But I am too busy. Eppy fills her cage with treats faster than I can
get them out.
3:01: Daisy
moves around the whole room, but still keeps jumping in Golly's cage to
steal treats. It seems they keep appearing there. Sugar is out of her cage
so she doesn't have to worry about that. She can't move like Eppy, but
she's still getting her fair share. I'm not touching the treats in Daisy's
cage yet because she's has nowhere near the quantity that Eppy does.
Eppy works all corners of the room now. She's getting everything. She can't
believe there are so many treats. Under the drawers. All through the ferret
highway. And an endless supply in Golly's cage.
3:02:
Thelma still eats cantaloupe. It's really good and it appears to be all
hers.
3:05: Treats are being moved around the room faster than
falling Enron stock. I am maintaining the same position, not having
moved since the treats were emptied on the floor. Posy and Lily have been
sitting on my shoulder. They want to play but also enjoy just sitting there.
They're not eating any treats and don't seem to mind that Sugar and Eppy
have stolen all their treats from their spots. Swirl has moved to
the laundry basket on top of cage one, where she usually enjoys sitting
and doing nothing. She has grown tired of all the stashing. Eppy
still moves. It's like that cartoon where Daffy Duck stole all the gold
from the Genie's cave. That is Eppy. Daffy Duck.
3:06: Golly thinks she is the greatest rat in the world
as I keep giving her treats to put in her cage. She thinks her cage is
going to have thousands of treats, because I'm hiding the supply I keep
getting from Eppy and giving them all to her. Eppy comes back to the Golly's
cage. She knows she can always find more treats there. Eppy and Golly bump
into each other entering the cage. Golly doesn't seem to mind.
3:08:
Golly is loving life. I'm giving her all these treats. She just can't believe
how great it is. And they're so big.
3:09: Thelma still eats cantaloupe.
3:10: Sugar has went back into Daisy's cage to steal treats.
Daisy is in Golly's cage stealing, then realizes Sugar was in her cage.
3:11:
Daisy stands watch on her cage for a while. That stupid Sugar had the nerve
to actually steal treats from her! Where does she get the gall to steal
her treats? Daisy gets off and goes to steal some more from Golly.
3:12: I'm still recycling treats from Eppy's cage. Now I'm coming
across half eaten Cheesepuffs. Somewhere along the way, either Eppy and
Sugar have been munching on them, or they're getting treats that the other
have been eating.
3:13: I'm still giving treats to Golly and an occasional one
to Posy and Lily. Posy and Lily just put them under the drawers again and
Eppy quickly runs over and gets them for her cage. I would be simpler to
just give them to Eppy and cut out the middle man, but at least Posy and
Lily are under the impression that they're getting treats too.
3:14: Eppy is astonished at how long she's been finding treats
all over the place and how many there still are. And her cage must be absolutely
full of them now!
3:15:
Finally, Golly catches on that Eppy is stealing all her treats, so when
I give them to her now, she runs to the ferret highway and stashes them
there. She doesn't know that Eppy is going in there periodically too, but
that's okay.
3:16: Thelma still eats cantaloupe.
3:17: The Cheesepuffs I'm pulling out of Eppy's cage are a little
wet, covered by about six different rat's saliva I imagine.
3:18: The only ones at it now, are Eppy and Daisy.
3:19: I'm taking Cheesepuffs out of Eppy's cage and putting
them in Golly's. Eppy runs into Golly's cage, takes the one I just placed
and puts it back in her cage. This goes on and on.
3:21: Thelma
hasn't stopped eating cantaloupe.
3:24: Eppy takes a break to smell her own butt.
3:25: I notice Golly coming out of the ferret highway with a
Cheesepuff. Maybe she realized Eppy was stealing them from there too.
3:27:
I'm tired of sitting in one spot for so long. Eppy has won. She has
cleared just about all the treats out of the room and put them in her cage.
I feel in there, in all three spots of her cage that she has placed them
and notice that half the Cheesepuffs are probably no good. They're totally
wet. These Cheesepuffs have been moved around the room like little pinballs.
They're half eaten and slobbered on. They've lost pieces of them between
the different rat's mouths who've moved them from one place to another.
Eppy still searches for more. She's not satisfied. She's like Mr. Potter
in It's a Wonderful Life. She's got to have it all. She wants to
rename the room to Eppytown. She wants to be the boss, run the show,
run all the rackets in the room. She's the one everyone goes to when they
need something. If she doesn't have it, she'll get it. She's got all the
marbles in her corner. Eppy, is the queen stasher of Eppytown.

Sugar and Eppy search the other
cage for more treats.
Daisy looks around too.
Thelma wonders why Sugar doesn't want
any cantaloupe too.
Sugar is tired from all that
treat stealing.
Ah, Swirl is ready for cantaloupe!
